Weave a Model Goat-Hair Tent for Avraham (Plain Weave)
Best for ages 5 & up
The typical black goat-hair tent of the Middle East uses a "tabby" ("plain weave") technique, in which the warp & woof are both visible. The tent cloth lets light in but keeps rain out. Weave a model plain-weave black goat-hair tent, held up with Lego posts, for a Lego Avraham. The tent, as according to tradition, has an opening on each of four sides so Avraham can do the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests), from each of the four directions from which guests might arrive. Finished size: 3 x 4.5 inches; BYOL (bring your own Legos!) if desired. Price includes extra-wide yarn and cardboard loom, which you may keep and reuse.
Length: 45 minutes for each group of 20or fewer children and adults
Cost: $5/person; one teacher per group free; adults who have done this program before are free; $350 minimum (you may be able to be piggy-backed before or after another group for a smaller minimum). Or $400/ 3-4 hours for as many participants as we can accomodate in a quicker version requiring a great deal of active participation from you and your staff. $1/mile travelling fee.
